POSCA PC-3M midnight colour tones, wallet of 8

Twilight, night sky and shadow colours, eight deep shades in the fine tip.

Eight deep PC-3M colours drawn from twilight, night skies and shadow make up the midnight tones wallet. It is a palette for nightscapes and for the dark side of a drawing: the deep shades of dusk and night. The 0.9 to 1.3mm bullet tip keeps stars, feather barbs and peacock eyes sharp. Each tip washes, reverses and takes a PCR3 nib. The water-based paint is opaque, so the deep colours cover pale paper cleanly and take a white or metallic highlight once dry.

Night skies, galaxies and moody illustration are what it is built for. Peacocks, ravens and other dark-plumaged birds come out of this wallet, and it gives contrast work a range of darks rather than one flat black.

The dark colours wallet is the broader deep set, and a single white PC-3M is the highlight to draw over the top. See the PC-3M range, the PC-3M dark colours wallet, single PC-3M markers and POSCA marker sets.

It draws a 0.9–1.3mm line and is the everyday fine POSCA — enough control for illustration and small lettering, enough coverage to colour in. It is the favourite for journalling and rock painting.

The 3M draws a 0.9–1.3mm line and the 5M a 1.8–2.5mm line. The 3M is better for detail and small work; the 5M covers ground faster and comes in the most colours. Most people end up owning both.

Yes. The PC-3M nib is reversible — a bullet at one end and a chisel edge at the other — and it pulls out with tweezers when it wears. Replacement nibs cost a fraction of a new pen.

Wash and dry the rock first, because dust stops paint sticking. The 3M handles most rock painting, with a PC-1MR for faces and fine detail. Seal anything that will live outside in the garden.

Let it dry fully — 24 hours is safest — then spray a clear acrylic varnish in several light passes from about 30cm rather than one heavy coat, which can reactivate water-based paint and smear it. Always test on a scrap done in the same colours first.
