POSCA PC-3M wood colour tones, wallet of 8

Eight timber and foliage shades in the fine tip, chosen for bark, grain and leaf work.

This wood tones wallet draws from the PC-3M range: eight markers in colours drawn from bark, timber, soil and foliage. The 0.9 to 1.3mm bullet tip is narrow enough to draw grain lines and knots, and it fills a leaf or a small panel with the same marker. Tips wash out, reverse and take a PCR3 nib. The water-based paint is permanent on wood, so these colours suit decorating timber as much as drawing it.

For nature illustration, seahorses and feathers and gum leaves, the palette is already picked. Woodworkers and sign makers who want a stain-like tone on a blank or a heart-shaped cut-out have the browns and greens in one place.

The earth tones wallet is the softer cousin, and the army tones wallet leans further into the greens. See the PC-3M range, the PC-3M earth tones wallet, the PC-3M army tones wallet and POSCA marker sets.

It draws a 0.9–1.3mm line and is the everyday fine POSCA — enough control for illustration and small lettering, enough coverage to colour in. It is the favourite for journalling and rock painting.

The 3M draws a 0.9–1.3mm line and the 5M a 1.8–2.5mm line. The 3M is better for detail and small work; the 5M covers ground faster and comes in the most colours. Most people end up owning both.

Yes. The PC-3M nib is reversible — a bullet at one end and a chisel edge at the other — and it pulls out with tweezers when it wears. Replacement nibs cost a fraction of a new pen.

Wash and dry the rock first, because dust stops paint sticking. The 3M handles most rock painting, with a PC-1MR for faces and fine detail. Seal anything that will live outside in the garden.

Let it dry fully — 24 hours is safest — then spray a clear acrylic varnish in several light passes from about 30cm rather than one heavy coat, which can reactivate water-based paint and smear it. Always test on a scrap done in the same colours first.
